Thursday 3rd March 2011:
Today, in contextual studies, we looked at a film ‘Blow Up’ about a fashion photographer. The idea of it was to show how sometimes things can be imagined, and how the truth contains social elements. This shows how a range of different information can come together to create an entirely new idea. This relates to the FMP as it shows how when researching ideas, designers, similar topics, etc, you can take all of this information and create something new and original from it as your own idea. I then started researching some graphic designers and thought about how their work can help me with developing ideas. For example, after looking at Milton Glaser’s posters, I thought about how I could have faces on my posters with words coming out with the names they may have been called by a bully. Neville Brody’s work uses a lot of typography and so it will be useful to look at further when thinking about how to being typography into my FMP work. I also looked at Paul Rand, who also uses a lot of typography within his work. However, he uses a small range of colours, which I think helps to make it more eye-catching, and, as well as this, the colours can create certain feelings of emotion. I will consider these things when designing my pieces and coming up with ideas.
Target for today: Research graphic designers and see how their work (even if not relating to bullying) can inspire and influence my own, and look more in depth at what the FMP entails so able to make relevant decisions when working through the project.
Target for tomorrow: Buy book to use as sketchbook and start reading a book about bullying for more information.
