Saturday 5th March 2011:

I prepped a few of my sketchbook pages so that I am able to get some ideas down in it soon. I like how the letters can be seen through the paint as this gives it quite a nice effect and will be interesting to work on when developing my work as I want to focus a lot on typography. If possible, I may be able to use the letters already on the page as part of my work so that the work works well with the page. I have covered a few letters throughout the book with paper, so that they don't get paint on, and (when the paper is removed) these will spell out 'anti-bullying'. It may not be very noticeable, but if it is, I think this will make my sketchbook more engaging and unique. It could also represent the fact that sometimes bullying isn't obvious and needs to be looked at harder in order for it to be noticed and prevented.

I also read a few more pages from Chapter 9 of the ‘Bullying’ book. I started reading about different types of bullies, and what characteristics they have. There are few different ‘types’ of bullies, and these include: the aggressive bully (ie: aggressive to anyone, even adults, etc), the anxious bully (generally more disturbed, have low self-esteem, etc), and finally the passive bully (easily dominated, feel guilty after bullying). It seems that most bullies are the aggressive type, only about 20% are the anxious type. From these characteristics, it seems that the passive bully would be the easiest one to stop from bullying as they have ‘empathy for other’s feelings’ and they ‘feel guilty after bullying’. Perhaps I could focus on these types of bullies first and prevent them from bullying (through strong messages in my anti-bullying campaign), but the other (aggressive and anxious) bullies may need more help (this would be where the support from my support company would come in). This therefore shows that bullying may be hard to prevent because there are different types of bullies, and they all need to be tackled in different ways.

Target for today: Read more of ‘Bullying’ book and start prepping sketchbook pages.

Target for tomorrow: Read more of ‘Bullying’ book and continue prepping
sketchbook pages.
